Client Reviews

“When we approached Kevin about purchasing a vehicle it was a new experience for us as we had never bought through an auction wholesaler like this before. However his knowledge and expertise in the local market and ability to get us a car that suited our needs at a great price far exceeded our expectations. When we needed a second car it was easy to decide who to contact. I would recommend Tokyo Euro to anyone interested in buying a high quality vehicle at a great price – without the hassle !!!”

Reuben & Kate Thorne – Christchurch, New Zealand

“Kevin, I greatly acknowledge the work you have done for me – it’s very much appreciated. The condition of the cars are even better than the photos. Your service is excellent and makes the buying process most enjoyabe. I have no hesitation in recommending your name to other New Zealanders wanting to import a car from Japan”

Brian Sampson – Napier, New Zealand

“Thanks very much for finding the vehicle we wanted and also at the right price. The importation was straightforward and everything happened as you described to us. We have no hesitation in recommending you and we will be back for our next vehicle”

John Taylor – Lake Hawea, New Zealand

“Kevin was referred to us by a friend who highly recommended the service they were provided when importing to NZ. Other than being incredibly well communicated with during the process of finding the right car, we have been very impressed with the end product. Our mechanic stated that the car Kevin found was the best example of an Audi import he had seen. The motor and body condition was “as new” with no signs of oil leaks underneath. We will continue to use Kevin for all new car purchases we make.”

Alex Lemon – Christchurch, New Zealand

“Kevin Dobbs was referred to us by friends when we made the move from New Zealand to Japan. He made the process so easy and gave us a range of quality vehicles to choose from. Our purchase exceeded our expectation. It suited our requirements and came at a great price. We would not hesitate to recommend Kevin for the hassle free purchase of a quality vehicle at a great price.

Mose & Brooke Tuiali’i – currently residing in Iwata, Japan

“Kevin was recommended by a family friend. This must have subconsciously helped, but after speaking to him several times and photos back and forth I had no hesitation to purchase. He is one of the most professional people I have ever had to deal with in any circumstance. For me I don’t like looking at cars, probably because would I even know (really) what it is mechanically I am looking at? Kevin is way more qualified than I am to check out a car. I see one I like here in NZ and go OK looks OK, look under the bonnet – AT WHAT?? Kick the tyres, tidy inside blah blah – too expensive… I could do 20 that way!  I’m a girl and one of the ones who finds looking at cars like watching paint dry!

WHY, WHY, WHY, WOULD I WANT TO SPEND ANY OF MY FREE TIME LOOKING AT CARS ON CAR YARDS!!

Kevin – the car angel did it all for me and even sent it over here. It was like having a Christmas present to open. You are in control of what you buy – it’s like shopping online – ok it’s a slightly bigger purchase than a toy or a sweater but the principle is the same. It’s about trust and I trust him implicitly. WHAT A STAR! “

Chrissy Henderson – Auckland, New Zealand

“Thanks for our lovely car Kevin, you came through with the perfect car for us. This was our first experience of importing a car and we were very impressed at how simple and painless it was. We told Kevin what we were looking for and how much we wanted to spend then he did the research and hard work. Kevin’s knowledge of the importing and auction systems also impressed us. Right from the start he kept us up to date with emails and phone calls so at all times we knew exactly what was happening. We didn’t know Kevin before this exercise, but have come to appreciate his integrity, professionalism and friendliness and highly recommend him to others wishing to purchase their dream car.”

Joyce & Ian Wilson – Winton, New Zealand

“I imported a Toyota Harrier to NZ through Kevin at Tokyo Euro and couldn’t be happier ! The car is even better than we hoped and the dealings through Kev were easy and helpful ! I would and will recommend this to all my friends looking at buying a car !.”

Tim Bateman – Christchurch, New Zealand

“I was referred to Kevin by a friend who had successfully imported two vehicles into New Zealand himself. As a beginner I found the process extremely simple and would certainly look to do it again. Once I placed an order Kevin sent me details of a car that fit my criteria and gave me a rough guage on price. After expressing interest he viewed the car personally and sent me roughly 10 inside and 10 outside photos of the vehicle. Kevin provided clear advice on the quality of the vehicle such as it was likely garaged as opposed to being left to the elements and general overall quality. Throughout Kevin gave me good advice and prior to the auction even called for extra comfort prior to bidding. On receiving the vehicle it was exactly as described with no nasty surprises whatsoever. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something special or looking to save a little money. Thanks Kevin.”

Tim Wilson – Auckland, New Zealand

“Kevin has chosen a great car for us, this comes from his careful attention to detail and ensuring we purchased a top car at a great price. He was able to advise us on the best model/year of the car we were looking for and the features we were after, with great back-up photos. This gave us the confidence we were looking for when choosing a car remotely. Kevin explained in detail the process of purchasing, importing and compliance procedures, these were followed and went without a hitch. We now have a very good car thanks to Kevin’s careful selection and a desire to do things well on our behalf.”

Brendan Jackson – Palmerston North, New Zealand

“This was my first time importing a car and Kevin made the whole process a breeze, his in-depth knowledge of the importing process and professionalism is second to none. I was extremely happy with the BMW he selected and the condition was exactly how he explained in our email correspondence prior to auction, top notch. I have suggested this service to many friends and family and am currently looking for a second car with Kevin as he made the whole process so easy and I appreciated his honesty, and friendly manner”

Sam Austin – Queenstown, New Zealand

“Having viewed TradeMe and had a good look for cars in New Zealand, we decided to see if we could source a higher quality car with a cheaper price from Japan. We weren’t disappointed. We bought an Audi A3 Sportback with very low kilometres and it was in prestige condition. The equivalent in NZ would have costs us thousands more. We would have no hesitation in recommending Kevin at Tokyo Euro. His service was outstanding only scouring for the highest quality cars, providing personal inspections with frequent liasons updating us on future auctions including pictures along with results. The import process with customs clearance and compliance was very simple.”

Glen Marsh – Auckland, New Zealand

“My wife and I have experienced great service and satisfaction in working with Kevin that we recently purchased our second vehicle bound for NZ through him. With both cars, we have been truly impressed by Kevin’s ability to spot an outstanding vehicle from amongst the thousands he sees. Kevin’s attention to detail, prompt and courteous service, and organisational skills have allowed us to rest easy knowing the he will take great care with every aspect of the buying process. The entire car-buying experience has become stress-free and simple, thanks to him, and we will continue to work with him and recommend his services wholeheartedly. Thanks again Kevin !”

New Zealand Car Buyers Beware !!!…

In both Japan and New Zealand there are many people working very hard to buy great condition vehicles for New Zealanders.

Unfortunately there are also people in the industry with clear intent to deceive buyers and deliberately purchase sub-standard vehicles. Myself and many in the trade in New Zealand witness this all too often.

Where a history of accident repair has been clearly labelled on a vehicle selling in Japan, so it should also be clearly labelled on the vehicle in New Zealand.

This is especially where companies promote themselves and their vehicles as being of the highest standards.

For various reasons the New Zealand motor industry has been in downward spiral in terms of vehicle quality. There is insufficient oversight from the government and unfortunately now far too much influence from large companies from Japan. Time for a complete review of the import industry.

#truthaboutlies #whatquality #liftyourgameNew Zealand Buyers BEWARE - rust, body damage & accident repairs are very common in the NZ market due to major dealer competition. Despite claims of thorough inspections in Japan & further checking on arrival, many cars are simply bought sight unseen then offered for sale while in transit from Japan.

Here is just one recent example that was for sale with a well known NZ importer - with bold advertising claims - until they pulled it down yesterday once word got out about the TRUE history of the car.

THE FACTS

2016 Nissan Leaf 30X
Chassis Number: AZE0-200872

31 Jan 2019 - Sold at NAA Osaka auction for $8,500 NZD with existing damage to left front, accident grade R.

- Quickly repaired in Japan -

12 Feb 2019 - Re-sold at TAA Kinki auction for $15,000 NZD, grade RA (minor repair)

Offered for sale "in transit" for $26,950 NZD by "HVS Dunedin" Motor Trader No. M364825 on trademe.co.nz & their own dealer website. No repair mentioned.

The Dealer's claims:

"Our Japanese imports are all high-grade, quality vehicles."

"All vehicles are pre-inspected in Japan before we purchase them which insures that only high-quality vehicles are purchased."

Note that FALSE KM is usually not a problem for NZ due to mandatory odometer checking prior to export from Japan, HOWEVER you should be very careful to check the past condition / repairs before purchase.

It's quick, simple & inexpensive to protect yourself by checking the Japanese history, most Basic Reports supplied < 1 hr: japancarhistorycheck.com/

On the 13th September 2018 a Buyer Beware Alert was posted to warn consumers that this vehicle was accident-repaired. I was actually at the very auction it was purchased at and incredibly shocked to see a New Zealand dealer in Lower Hutt was soon advertising it for sale on both trademe and also their own website.

The company is a “Multi Award Winning MTA Dealership” “An established and trusted part of the Wellington community, why wouldn't you want to deal with the name trusted by Wellingtonian's for over 23 years”

Very soon, the vehicle’s advertisement was removed from both trademe and the dealer’s website. Actually it then appeared for sale on the wholesale stocklist of a major Japanese export company.

Sometime after that I received a phone call from the owner of the Lower Hutt dealership himself - he said that I might have noticed he has hasn’t bought any accident-repaired vehicles since attention has been brought to the issue. He went further to say that he certainly didn’t buy any vehicles that had experienced welding repairs - well I already knew he had been buying such vehicles.

He wanted to meet me in person in Japan sometime, but I've never heard from him in the times he has since visited.

Regardless of all that I see that this vehicle is now in New Zealand and has been registered. It’s someones new pride and joy.

I’m wondering who, after such exposure, decided to import and sell it in New Zealand - and how was the quality of this vehicle represented to the car buyer ?
